My Great Grandfather was born in March of 1844, and lived his life in the early 1900s in Brooklyn, NY, and in some part of the 1800s in Massachusetts. He immigrated to the US in 1851, at about age 7. He enlisted in the Union Army in Springfield, MA on Aug 5, 1862, to be part of the 37th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry. Company K was mustered Sep 4, 1862, and Patrick soon became a part of the Army of the Potomac. Only four months later he was discharged in Alexandria, VA with a disability in January of 1863. According to his Civil War records, he was born in Meath, County Mayo, Ireland, and was age 18 in August 1862 when he enlisted, though family members believe he was from County Cavan. Per daughter Mary's 1930 census entry was born Ireland North.
